Your One-Stop Solution For Custom Made Polymers

February 6, 2024

A question-and-answer session with Kim Sander Petersen, managing director, Chempilots.

Q: Please provide an overview of Chempilots and how you differentiate in the polymer market?

A: Absolutely, Chempilots was founded in Denmark in 1957 with a focus on applied polymer chemistry. The company has grown considerably in this time, and we have served a variety of companies, from Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups. Our approach with customers is to help them identify unique polymer solutions that require commonly used polymers or to collaborate in the development of custom, never-before-seen polymers. We take great pride in upholding exceptional quality standards, fostering unique customer relationships, and providing the flexibility required for our customers to achieve their goals.

Q: The polymers market is very broad, are there any areas that you provide specific expertise in?

A: You are correct that the polymers market is broad. While we can provide solutions for nearly any project, recently we have been working closely with our customers with polymer synthesis for medical devices, more specifically in the development of hydrogel solutions and custom binders and pigment formulations. Our objective is to provide unique solutions for their projects while providing the best service and support that they’ve come to expect.

Q: You just referenced your customer service model; can you provide more information on your model?

A: At Chempilots, we are much more than a polymer creation company. From development to scale-up and final manufacturing, we have the capability to meet the unique needs of our customers. Our model starts with custom polymer synthesis, where customers come to us with a specification they want to develop or an existing polymer material they want us to help scale up production. Through custom polymer synthesis, we help specify, develop, and characterize the custom polymer that best matches the specifications provided in the project kickoff. We then collaborate closely with the customer to conduct process development, sampling, and develop analysis methods. When creating a polymer for medical applications, a proper process must be in place to yield a reproducible production outcome. Following the development steps, Chempilots offers contract manufacturing to support production at scale. We operate in controlled rooms under appropriate controls that ensure the highest-quality product in every order that we fulfill.

Q: In 2023, Chempilots was acquired by Biocoat Incorporated, can you provide a high-level overview of this partnership?

A: Yes, this has been a common question for us. Biocoat has been executing a strategy to become a global leader in providing biocompatible medical coatings and other polymeric materials for medical devices and pharmaceutical applications. When you combine our expertise in specialty polymer products and services, this forms a unique opportunity to expand the value we offer our customers.
