Biocoat has turned 30!
On November 1, 1991, our founder, Ellington Beavers, filed the official paperwork to develop hydrophilic coatings using hyaluronic acid (HA) as the key ingredient. At the time, Dr. Beavers connected with his colleagues to research and find the best use of this unique idea. Using these new coatings for medical devices was one of the original ideas for the new coatings, and after a few years, we signed on our first customers of HYDAK® hydrophilic coatings.
Biocoat’s growth and success has always been a result of our dedication to developing the best coatings and unsurpassed customer service at every opportunity. In 2018, I joined Biocoat and in this time I have challenged my team to develop, test and release new hydrophilic coating products and services. Following are just some of Biocoat’s recent accomplishments:
- Developed an ultraviolet (UV) cure coating that offers best-in-class performance;
- Designed and rolled out a new in-house Contract Coating Service that can support both UV and Thermal cure coatings;
- Expanded HYDAK’s capabilities by creating a Pre-Mix option and developed a formula to support the coating of hydrophilic films and microfluidic materials.
I am also excited to share that starting in 2022, we will be launching a new business unit with the intention of selling hydrophilic dip-coating equipment. The sale of coating equipment is another step in the execution of our strategy, where Biocoat becomes a full-service, end-to-end coating provider. But rest assured, we will not stop there. We are currently working on several new coating materials that will enable our customers a solution to meeting the rigorous demands required of your devices, including softer materials. We will be sure to share updates on these new and innovative materials as they become available.
